Kevin's Thoughts...
Royal Caribbean is a very family oriented cruise line that has everything anyone could want from Grandparents, on down to the youngest kids. These ships are active... constantly active. There are physical activities like the FlowRider surf simulator, Ice skating, dodgems, rock climbing walls and more. Passive entertainment like Broadway shows, live music, deck parties, Aqua Theater high dive shows, and lots more. Then there are quiet areas... the wooded central park, and the quaint boardwalk area that will make you forget your even on a cruise ship.
Kids.... they are a natural fit for Royal Caribbean. The activities and offerings vary from age to age, but there is something, a whole lot of something for everyone. The kids clubs, separated by age groups, serves just the right balance of entertainment and relaxation. You may have to drag them away from the kids clubs. Add in the pools, water slides, and other activities, and there is always something for the kids to do.
Most of the ships are, in a word, massive. The newer ships are some of the biggest ships ever built. While they are big, they are easy to navigate, and after a day or 2 they seem to "shrink" and become easier to get around. Large dining spaces, large theaters and multiple shows, provide more than just capacity, they provide options. The public spaces are laid out into neighborhoods, and have intimate spaces that seem to defy the overall size of the ship.
Promotions on Royal Caribbean change often. They tend to rotate from one to another, often with no change in actual savings, just a new name. The Kids Sail Free can be a great savings, but generally is offered in times when kids are in school. WOW sales are usually a good additional onboard credit on top of the typical sale. Like most other cruise lines, booking early is your best value, regardless of the promotion. Bookings can easily be repriced if the price goes down prior to final payment.
Royal Caribbean, despite their name, sails all over the world, on somewhat standard repeating routes. Cruises tend to be 7 days (or more), but some shorter options are available on some ships.
